Nana Osaki is a punk singer who wants to debut with her band as soon as possible to leave her ex-boyfriend, Ren Honjo, behind. Nana was the lead vocalist in their old band with Ren, and they lived together as lovers. When Ren is offered a chance to debut in Tokyo as a replacement member of the popular band Trapnest (TraNes for short), Nana chooses to cultivate her own band, Black Stones (BlaSt for short) instead.

Nana Komatsu, the other Nana, is called Hachi as she has strong mental characteristics that resemble a puppy. With a habit of falling in love at first sight, Hachi has always depended on other people to help her. When her friends and then boyfriend leave for Tokyo, she decides to join them a year later after having saved enough money.

Nana and Hachi meet in a train by chance, both on their way to Tokyo. After a string of coincidences, they come to live together in an apartment numbered 707. Despite having contrasting characters and ideals, the Nanas like and respect each other.

While the Black Stones begin to gain popularity at live gigs, other issues need resolving, especially in the areas of romance. The story of Nana revolves heavily on the romance and relationships of the two characters as one seeks fame and recognition while the other seeks love and happiness. [wikipedia]

How we met

I found this Anime while browsing myanimelist the other day and it seems that a lot of people enjoyed the series so I immediately added it to my “Plan to Watch” Anime list. Added to that, I found the complete videos of Black Cat at stage6 so I started downloading the episode which is much easier instead of using the torrent.

Synopsis

Black Cat is about a former assassin, Train Heartnet, and a former investigator, Sven. While Train was an assassin, he was known as Black Cat. He used to work for an organization known as Chronos. Chronos controls the world and maintains the peace. It has 13 of its own assassins. Train was the 13th. Train and Sven are now bounty hunters, known as Sweepers. Train bears the number 13, in roman numerals, on his left chest and on his gun. Sven wears an eye patch over his right eye. They make their living going from place to place and catching bounties. Another former member of Chronos, Creed, plots to destroy Chronos. Creed wants to make a new world. Creed creates an organization known as The Apostles, and gather other people who have gained unique powers through a special potion. Train wants to kill Creed for something that happened in the past, Creed wants to recruit Train to his organization, and Chronos’ assassins are putting Creed and The Apostles as their number one objective to destroy. Review

Art/Animation: Every time I got interested with an Anime, it’s because of the art/animation. I’m so glad that it turns out just what I expected. The way the characters were drawn is very nice especially Train’s eyes which look exactly like a cat’s eye. (7/10)

Music/Sound: The only time I hear a music in the series was when Saya/Saki was singing either in the rooftop or a bridge. I don’t know the importance of their song but I hope it’s connected with the second season (in case there would be). (4/10)

Story: A group of people (assassin/sweeper) are gathered to join forces to destroy the source of evil and to stop their evil intentions. It’s just a simple story but you will be amazed how the author laid the story with lots of twist and conspiracy. The conspiracy was too good that you wouldn’t notice who are the bad/good guys. (8/10)

Good news for Filipino Paypal users. In case you don’t know yet:

Moving on, I’m currently downloading a new Anime series: Da Capo. I already finished the Black Cat last week and I hope there would be a second season. I also wanted to watch Shuffle! but I can’t find any site that offers direct download of this series so I this Anime would be “on-hold” for a while.
